The Commons: Re-enchanting the World

Love the Print Spec? Note it down and we can quote the same for your next project πŸ“

200x155mm Books
4pp Cover onto 250gsm Uncoated 100% Recycled
150pp Text onto 170gsm Uncoated 100% Recycled
Four colour print throughout
Trimmed, collated and perfect bound

Trimmed to a bespoke, slightly off kilter size wider than A5 and it definitely had to be printed onto soft uncoated 100% recycled paper.

The aim of @reenchanting_the_commons is to transport the reader to an agricultural craft museum which tells the story of social and cultural history. Within the 146 pages are collections, concepts and conversations concerning our relationship with landscapes, materials, food and the natural world.

The book forms a wonderfully eclectic mix of illustrations, written word and photography. Texture filled artwork
is given a natural slant with its styling and rough aesthetic.

Designed by Kristen Fraser, the publication documents The Commons: Re-Enchanting the World curated by Catherine Morland and Amanda Couch that took place at The Museum of English Rural Life @the.merl University of Reading, from January 2020 – April 2022. The book features colour images of the work and installations of artists, #KelechiAnucha and Carl Gent @fashion_vacuum , Sam Wallman @ourmembersbeunlimited @sigridholmwood @catmorland and @amandacouch_art with texts written by the artists contextualising their response to the Commons and the work’s relationship to The MERL collections. The book also features introductory texts by the curators, an essay tour of the gallery installations by the curator of MERL Collections, Ollie Douglas, an essay by Sigrid Holmwood as well as documentation of the events, workshops and other relationships that formed part of the project.

Ex Why Zed makes self publishing a truly pleasurable experience!
Brilliant communication from start to finish. Mike had endless patience for the many questions we asked. The guides provided were easy to follow and super helpful (the video guides are a must watch too). Our order of hardback illustrated children's books was delivered expertly packaged and on time. As for the finished product itself - stunning - a real joy to finally hold, beautifully made and perfectly printed! We couldn't have asked for more. Well, we did - we instantly placed an order for paperback children's colouring books too, which we are equally as happy with. Look forward to working with Ex Why Zed again in the future.
